Governors
Governing Body
The Governing Body plays a key role in helping to provide the best possible education for all our students. We work in the background, leaving day to day running of the school to the Headteacher and staff, and are accountable to parents and the wider community to ensure that standards are of the highest quality. A new constitution for the governing body commencing on the 1st August 2015 has been introduced.
We decide strategic policy for the school, monitor progress, set and monitor the budget in liaison with the LA, and support and advise those who carry out specific work. We are made up of a combination of appointed, elected and co-opted individuals.
A Governing Body does not make all decisions but delegates much of that responsibility to its sub-committees. At Cheslyn Hay Sport and Community High School these are: Strategy, Curriculum and Pastoral, Standards and Outcomes and Resources (Finance, HR and Premises) Like the full Governing Body, they meet at appropriate times during the year, and report to the Full Governing Body Meeting. Individual governors accept specific responsibilities, which sometimes involve representing the Governing Body at school and local events.
Governors usually serve a term of four years and provide their services in an unpaid capacity. The work requires commitment but is extremely rewarding. To help governors, the LA and National Governors Association provides training and support for all governors and governing bodies (including advisors and clerks for full governing body meetings if required). For further information please visit the National Governors Association website. Where vacancies occur, selection is made to ensure that the governing body has a wide and experienced group of governors able to govern the school effectively.
Should you wish to speak with a governor, please contact the Clerk Mrs E Morris at school or email
